Privacy Policy

Your account. When you sign in, we receive your email address and, if you provide them, your name, username, and profile image. We do not see or store your password — our sign-in provider handles that.

Waitlist sign-ups. If you fill out the open beta waitlist form, we collect what you submit (typically name, email, and a few questions about your quilting) so we can send you an invitation and shape the beta around how people actually quilt.

How you use PatchOwl. We record events describing how you interact with the Service — for example, when you create or open a design, view cutting instructions, or export a PDF — along with standard technical data like browser, operating system, IP address, and timestamps. This helps us understand which features are useful and fix things that break.

We use Session Replay, a service provided by PostHog, to troubleshoot bugs, improve our user interface, and optimize the Service. Not every session is recorded — our analytics provider samples a portion of traffic. Session Replay may record mouse clicks, mouse movements, scrolling activity, the visible page including your quilt canvas, and text you type into forms within the PatchOwl app or website. Password fields and other sensitive inputs are masked before recording. Recordings do not capture audio or video from your camera or microphone, and PostHog does not track your activity across unrelated websites or services. We use recordings only for debugging and product improvement, and we do not sell or share them with any other parties (other than PostHog). You can opt out (see "Your choices" below).

Feedback you send. When you use the in-app feedback button, we receive the message you typed, the type of feedback (bug, idea, praise, other), and the page you were on, linked to your account so we can follow up.

We use the information above to:

• provide, maintain, and improve the Service;
• sign you in and keep your account secure;
• manage the open beta waitlist and send invitations;
• reproduce and fix reported bugs;
• understand which features get used and decide what to build next;
• send you transactional emails about your account or invitations;
• comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers or use it to train third-party advertising or AI models.

We use a small set of trusted providers to operate the Service. Each receives only what it needs to do its job. For full details on how each provider handles your data, follow the links below.

• Clerk — signs you in and manages your account. Receives your email and profile info. Privacy policy.
• PostHog — product analytics. Receives usage events, technical data, and session replays. Privacy policy.
• Tally — hosts our polls and questionaires, including the beta waitlist form. Receives whatever you submit there. Privacy policy.
• Vercel — hosts our website and handles aggregate web analytics. Privacy policy.
• GitHub — distributes our desktop app installers and updates. Privacy policy.

We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and property of PatchOwl and its users.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete the personal information we hold about you, to object to certain processing, and to withdraw consent. Email info@patchowl.com and we’ll respond within a reasonable time.

Cookies and browser storage. We use cookies and local storage to keep you signed in, remember preferences (like your theme), and run analytics. You can clear or block these in your browser; doing so may sign you out and disable some features.

Session Replay recordings. You can stop session replay recordings by blocking the PostHog domain in your browser, and you can stop using the Service at any time.

We keep account information while your account is active. Usage events and session recordings are kept for the period configured in our analytics provider (typically up to a year for recordings, longer for aggregated events). Waitlist submissions are kept until the beta invitation is sent and for a reasonable period after. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete or anonymize associated personal information within a reasonable time, except where we’re required to retain it for legal, accounting, or security reasons.

We use standard safeguards including encryption in transit (TLS) and access controls. No system is perfectly secure; if you discover a vulnerability, please report it to info@patchowl.com.

If you’re in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we process your information to provide the Service (performance of a contract), to secure and improve it (legitimate interests), where you’ve given consent, and to comply with legal obligations.

We’re based in the United States and several of our providers are too. If you access the Service from elsewhere, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States. We rely on standard contractual clauses and equivalent safeguards where required.

PatchOwl is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA / UK), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we’ll delete it.

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll revise the “Last updated” date above. For material changes, we’ll give additional notice by email or in-app message.
